Radar: Eye On Burma, Wiz Khalifa, Astronautalis & Dream Jefferson, "Being Frank," and Elvis Monday

ART | EYE on BURMA
Burma is a far and distant land, surrounded by China, Laos, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Its art and culture have never made a big splash in the West, though there is plenty to take note of. Today marks the beginning of a special art exhibition that reportedly required a "special Canadian government permit" to take place! "Eye On Burma" offers a glimpse into the contemporary art and culture of Burma. Featured artists include: Khin Zaw Latt, S Moe Z, Than Kyaw Htay, and Kyee Myintt Saw. The exhibition runs until October 10th, with the opening reception this Wednesday night.

MUSIC | WIZ KHALIFA - ROLLING PAPERS WORLD TOUR
Wiz Khalifa rolls into the Sound Academy tonight! It's been an amazing journey for Wiz, first getting the thumbs up from Rolling Stone six years ago when still an unknown, then shuffling from Warner to Atlantic, playing all the big fests in the US the past few Summers, and dropping various mixtapes along the way. His first official studio album, "Rolling Papers" debuted at Number Two on the Billboard charts back in March - pretty sweet! It's this very release that Wiz is touring, and he'll be in good company with special guest Reema Major tonight.
Sound Academy (11 Polson Street) 8PM $39.50

MUSIC | Astronautalis and Dream Jefferson
Astronautalis has a unique sound, being an artist that is at once undeniably in the hip hop camp, but also shows strong alt-rock, and electro influences. His vibe is serious, and largely devoid of the bravado one associates with the hip hop camp, and the soundscapes that make up his tracks have some edge, and ambience that keeps his sound fresh and totally eclectic. Astronautalis has toured a few times with Teagan and Sarah, and will be supported nicely by local 'outside' hip hop duo Dream Jefferson opening for him tonight.
The Shop at Parts & Labour (1566 Queen Street West) 8PM $10

BOOKS & LIT | Book Launch: Being Frank: The Inspiring True Story Of Frank D'Angelo
TO entrepreneur and talk sow host, Frank D'Angelo hosts a cupcake party tonight at Woo Lounge! OK - it's not all about the cupcakes! Mr. D is launching his autobiography, "Being Frank: The Inspiring True Story Of Frank D'Angelo." To get an idea of what might be in store, check out this great article by former Radar writer Ben Spurr on Frankie D.
