Radar: White Suns, Glam! Pride Edition, Alexz Johnson, Killabits, Strictly Canadian, Rainbow Flag raising at City Hall for Pride 2011

MUSIC | White Suns w/ Connoisseurs Of Porn + Women In Tragedy + Teen Tits
There's a very heavy lineup at The Boat tonight... But wait - it's a Monday! Could it be that Elvis Monday regulars Teen Tits/Wild Wives, knowing full well that tonight is one of the few Mondays where William New's weekly Drake showcase is not happening, have decided to take the hard hitting, street-level action elsewhere?... It looks like it. The headliner tonight is Brooklyn noise-punk outfit, White Suns, making their inaugural TO appearance, in support of a fresh new release. Like-minded locals, Connoisseurs Of Porn, will not be churning out the funky muzak their name might imply, but rather some edgy, piercing sounds characteristic of their rep as a "chaos unit". Also on board are local rockers Women In Tragedy, and the aforementioned Teen Tits/Wild Wives. The Boat will be rocked.
The Boat (158 Augusta Avenue) 9PM $5

CULTURE | GLAM! Pride Edition - A Variety Show of Epic Proportions
Pride Week, which began last Friday (and runs until July 3rd), celebrates Toronto's LGBT community, and tonight's Glam! variety showcase at The Supermarket is part of the festivities! Comic Topher McFarlane will host, and a stellar lineup of local comics and simpatico celebs is promised, including Richard Ryder, Ashley Moffatt, Vicki Licks and Andrew Johnston. There will also be musical performances by Matt Murray, Ken Linsday, and more. This eclectic show is a fundraiser for the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line.
The Supermarket (268 Augusta Avenue) 8PM $10

MUSIC | Alexz Johnson
Three-time Gemini nominee, Alexz Johnson, is both an actress and a singer-songwriter. Her first claim to fame came from the acting side of things, with a role on "Instant Star," and appearances on "So Weird" and other shows. Her first album, "Voodoo" came out last year, and was a while in the making due to her changing labels and other related complications. However, since its release, reviews have been very favorable, and all signs point to tonight's show being a winner.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 8PM $11

LITERATURE | Irshad Manji on "Allah, Liberty, and Love"
Tonight, author Irshad Manji discusses her new work, "Allah, Liberty, and Love" with the CBC's Matt Galloway, in a one-on-one conversation/interview format. Manji is well-known for her criticism of traditional Islamic culture, and her bestselling book, "The Trouble With Islam Today", is internationally known and has been published in over thirty languages. Her latest, "Allah, Liberty, and Love", is a more optimistic approach to similiar issues, and seems to be pointing at solutions and positive approaches to incorporating modern, liberal values into an ancient tradition. NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge Street) 7PM FREE (pre-reg required)
