Radar: Sloan, Authors at Harbourfront Centre, The Not So Nice Italian Girls and Friends, Falcon Punch & Hind Legs, The Altobeelays, Peter Gabriel, Ron Hawkins, and The Do Good Assassins

MUSIC | Sloan @ The Mod Club
Tonight, Sloan hits the Mod Club! These guys have a lot to celebrate - after 20 years in the rock 'n' roll business, they are still going strong and putting out great material. Some theorize that their uber-democratic inner workings - which allow each band member to contribute material and sing - has kept the ship afloat and everyone happy. They have a new album that they are currently touring: "The Double Cross," which finds them on a new label, and sounding just as great as they ever have.
The Mod Club (722 College Street) 8PM $36

LITERATURE | Authors at Harbourfront Centre: Robert Rotenberg & S.J. Watson
The "Authors At Harbourfront Centre" series continues this week, bringing Toronto audiences literary readings from world-class authors in a great venue. Tonight, Robert Rotenberg will read from his latest work, "The Guilty Plea." Rotenberg's background as a lawyer and magazine publisher likely helped lend this Toronto courtroom drama a helping hand. "Before I Go To Sleep" is S.J. Watson's first novel, and he will be sharing excerpts from this thriller which has generated quite a buzz, especially since Ridley Scott acquired the film rights. There will be a Q&A following the readings.
Brigantine Room, York Quay Centre (235 Queen's Quay West) 7:30PM $10 (FREE Under 24/Students/Members)

LITERATURE | The Not So Nice Italian Girls and Friends Reading Series
The (Not So) Nice Italian Girls is a literary posse to be aware of! Their mandate since their formation in 2009 has been to promote the work of Italian-Canadian writers and poets to the literary scene at large. Tonight at Annex Live, this group presents a special reading of both poetry and prose, with a unifying theme of "What Is A Man?" - an age old literary question. The event will feature readings by Valentino Assenza, Rocco de Giacomo, Luciano Iacobelli, Pasha Malla, Jason Paradiso, and Sam Pupo. The evening will be hosted by emcees Michelle Alfano and Giovanna Riccio.
Annex Live (296 Brunswick Avenue) 7:30PM

MUSIC | Falcon Punch! + Hind Legs, and The Altobeelays
A cool and different kind of lineup comes at you from Two Way Monologues tonight @ Rancho! Falcon Punch are the headliners, and it is very refreshing to see an instrumental, ambient/jam-oriented band play one of these Wednesday night lineups! Opening the bill are Hamilton's Altobeelays, who are also a refreshing change stylistically, as they lean towards the funky and psychedelic side of things, and also have ties to the 'jam scene'. Also on the bill is Hind Legs, from Halifax, who will keep Rancho's Wednesday night regulars musically 'grounded'. This male and female fronted outfit with short, tight tunes, and more of an aggressive vibe will fill out this bill nicely!
Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street) 9PM $5
