MUSIC | NXNE: Rancho Relaxo Showcase
Although NXNE officially began Monday with some film screenings, we are now getting to the heart of the matter - the music showcases! Tonight at Rancho, Two Way Monologues and NXNE team up to deliver a great pop/rock-oriented lineup. On the bill are The Young Contrarians, Broken Bricks, the electro-pop stylings of Girl + The Machine, the scorching blues-rock sounds of Black Devil's Brigade, The Love Machine, and the punk-infused vibe of Careers In Science will close the show.

MUSIC | NXNE: Balanced Records showcase at Lula Lounge
Lula Lounge hosts its own unique NXNE showcase tonight, hosted by Balanced Records, and featuring artists on that label, as well as others that are like-minded, and leaning towards the dub, downtempo, funk, house, and reggae camps. Nate Wize is featured tonight: he's a producer, DJ, and artist who blends the sounds and rhythms of hip-hop, bass music and dub. King Sunshine is also on the bill, and this band has been together for a while, perfecting their unique and funky blend of danceable, progressive music, shaking up the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and other top notch gigs. Also on the bill tonight are Citizen Sound, The Seed Organization, Ammoye, Rise Ashen, and Joe Silva.

LITERATURE | Joyce Carol Oates at Luminato
Luminato presents another great literary event: a conversation with Joyce Carol Oates. Oates' work has won the National Book Award, and several of her novels have been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. She currently teaches Creative Writing at Princeton University. This evening she will be focussing on her recent novel, "A Widow's Story", a memoir about the death of her husband, the profound impact this has had on her life, and "the absurdities of commercialized forms of mourning". Author Jane Urqhart will be the host, and there will be both a Q & A, and a book signing.
Glenn Gould Studio (250 Front Street West) 7PM $20
FUNDRAISER | West End Food Co-Op "Food Close to Home" Fundraising Party
The West End Food Co-op has found a new location at the Parkdale Community Health Centre, and needs some help raising funds in order to make the transition complete. Among many other things, the co-op's mission is to bring its community healthy, locally produced, and ecologically sustainable food products via a grocery outlet. The event begins with a more business-focussed launch of the fundraising campaign, but the party goes down at 9pm, so do consider coming out to show your support.
Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West) 6:30PM FREE / $10
