MUSIC | Galactic at Lee's Palace
Tonight, Lee's Palace hosts New-Orleans ensemble, Galactic! It's rare that a band can appeal strongly to several audiences at once, but these guys have fans in the jamband, funk, hip hop, and jazz crowds. Coming from New Orleans, their rootsy jazz and funk origins are unavoidable, but they have also done many collabs with hip hop artists, which have aided in their development in that direction. Some of the evolution in their sound over the years since they formed in 1994 has also been due to technology, and the use of effects, sampling and electronics. Tonight's show is loaded with guests: Corey Glover of Living Colour will make an appearance, and there will be opening sets by The Heavyweights Brass Band and DJ Farbsie. Get your funk on tonight!
