MUSIC | Galactic at Lee's Palace
Tonight, Lee's Palace hosts New-Orleans ensemble, Galactic! It's rare that a band can appeal strongly to several audiences at once, but these guys have fans in the jamband, funk, hip hop, and jazz crowds. Coming from New Orleans, their rootsy jazz and funk origins are unavoidable, but they have also done many collabs with hip hop artists, which have aided in their development in that direction. Some of the evolution in their sound over the years since they formed in 1994 has also been due to technology, and the use of effects, sampling and electronics. Tonight's show is loaded with guests: Corey Glover of Living Colour will make an appearance, and there will be opening sets by The Heavyweights Brass Band and DJ Farbsie. Get your funk on tonight!
Lee's Palace (529 Bloor Street West) 8PM $23.50

LITERATURE | Authors at Harbourfront Centre presents Descanting for Forty Years
The "Authors at Harbourfront Centre" series has changed things up a bit this week. Tonight's edition will celebrate Canada's own literary journal, Descant, as it turns 40! Ian Brown will host this reunion of some of the journal's greatest contributors, as they recall anecdotes, 'cultifacts', history, and more. Of course there will be readings! Slated to appear on stage are bill bissett, Steven Heighton, Olga Korper, KV Skene, Eric Wright, and others.
Brigantine Room, York Quay Centre (235 Queen's Quay West) 7:30PM $10 (FREE Under 24/Students/Members)

FUNDRAISER | Book Bakery Benefit
Tonight is a great opportunity to check out TO's newest literary entity, The Book Bakery. Dubbed as "Toronto's community-based literary art project", this group is holding its first event tonight, and it's a fundraiser, a book launch, and a fun fair, all in one! Authors in attendance who will be launching books tonight include Andrew Kaufman, Pasha Malla, and Tabitha Southey. There will be an author's kissing booth, carnival games, baked goods, and more. Your admission is a donation that will help support the Book Bakery.
918 Bathurst Street 7pm $10

CULTURE | Pride Week 2011: Viva Cabaret
Continuing with the Pride Week 2011 festivities, tonight's event, Viva Cabaret, will keep the celebretory fires burning! Viva Cabaret is a one-man show, featuring the talents of Yura, an actor and female impersonator 'extraordinaire'. The show's theme is 'divas', and the audience is promised to experience a tribute to the greatest divas in show biz history! The costumes and performances will be blinged out beyond measure, and a combination of great choreography, classic drag, and comedy will be the order of the evening. A guest appearance from Enrik Marks is promised.
Buddies In Bad Times Theatre (12 Alexander Street) 8PM $15
