FASHION | The Roaring 20s: Heels, Hemlines and High Spirits
The first modern era of hedonism, partying and great music! Sounds like the sixties? Where do you think they got it from? The Roaring Twenties found jazz, cultural decadence, Hollywood, and fashion at a momentary peak. For those 'fashionistas' who care to know their history, definitely check out this exhibit at The Bata Shoe Museum that begins today, as the relationship between '20s culture and fashion are examined, with a focus on footwear.
Bata Shoe Museum (327 Bloor Street West) 10AM to 5PM $14/members: free

LITERATURE | HEAR/HEAR 11
This bi-annual literary event at Kensington Market's Supermarket delivers its first installment of 2011 tonight. Featured authors will be Paul Carlucci, Joseph Mavilglia, Emma Roberts, and Jacob Scheir. Hear/Hear is connected to "Now Hear This", which is an outreach program that aims to encourage creative writing in the classroom, and also connects upcoming writers with an audience in their community.
The Supermarket (268 Augusta Avenue) 6:30PM FREE

FUNDRAISER | Sway Prostate Cancer benefit
Music comes to the rescue once again, this time aiming to help the cause of prostate cancer: a terrible disease that afflicts a large number of males every year. This event is striving to raise funds for the cause, and also raise awareness in the Afro-Canadian community about this disease. "Awareness" alone can save the lives of many, simply by inspiring someone to get checked out: early detection can often beat this thing! Come and show support, enjoy some food and drink, and get inspired by some soulful performances by Liberty Silver, Divine Brown, Mac Graham, and more.
Embassy Night Club (117 Peter Street) 6:30PM $20

CULTURE | NOW Talks: Woody Harrelson
Everyone loves Woody! This guy has been forever 'immortalised' via the hit sitcom "Cheers", and has nominated for two Academy Awards! He is also known for his efforts in the "pro-hemp" movement, and serves on the advisory board for NORML, plus he was given an honorary degree by York U for his pro-environmental work. Tonight Harrelson and Now Magazine's Michael Hollett will sit down for a convo/interview at The Drake. They'll be discussing his new play "A Bullett For Adolph" which he is directing, and co-wrote, as well as Woody's new flick "Friends With Benefits", which is slated for release this Summer.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 6:30PM $10
