AGO Toronto

Radar: Miami Horror, Denial Art Sale, Toronto Hearts Japan, The Illusionist, Doctor Ew & Language-Arts

MUSIC | Miami Horror
All the way from Melbourne, Australia this disco-pop, electro band will be filling The Mod Club with some serious beats, hooks and stellar synths that will have the audience dancing up a storm. With electrifying live shows, this is a gig you won't want to miss out on. And kicking the night off will be Toronto's own DVAS, who have had a strong start to 2011, leaving music fans crushing hard all over the city.
The Mod Club (722 College Street), 10pm $15 plus s.c.

ART | Denial Art Sale
If you're in the market for some super cool, local art then head down to Denial Art Sale tonight. The sale will feature graffiti and mixed media pieces that are so hip you'll want to cover every inch of your wall space with them. Denial is a Canadian artist and his moniker is "a phonetic mix-up representing his first name, and by definition, pokes fun at modern advertising, politics and media messages." Everything must go so get there early!
Design Republic (639 Queen Street West), Opens Friday for the weekend Free

FUNDRAISER | Toronto Hearts Japan
Narwhal Art Projects, Invisible-Friends and The Gladstone are holding a special fundraiser tonight to raise hope, hearts and funds for our friends in Japan. The night will consist of an art exhibition, silent auction, and great music. All the proceeds will be donated to The Red Cross and to help rebuild an art centre in Shiogama. Show your support for this devastated nation with good friends, old and new at Toronto Hearts Japan's opening reception tonight.
The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West), 7-10pm Free

FILM | Free Friday Film: The Illusionist
Free Friday Film, at Innis Town Hall is a student's answer to a fun-filled Friday night. Whether you're looking for a low budget (read: free) date night or night out with pals, checking out the flicks playing each Friday at Innis are a surefire winning solution. Tonight's film is The Illusionist, and no not the 2006 drama but rather an animated story based on an original screenplay by Jacques Tati. How much better is that? Lots, I'd say.
Innis Town Hall (2 Sussex Avenue), 7-10pm Free

MUSIC | Doctor Ew + Language-Arts
Doctor Ew, more commonly known as Drew Smith is playing a show tonight at The Drake Underground. If you're a fan of his vocal stylings with his band, The Bicycles you'll definitely love his solo project and even if you haven't heard of them, you're in for a fun night. Also gracing the stage will be Language-Arts from Vancouver, a fun, poppy duo of brilliance. Get there early!
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West), 8pm $5
