CULTURE | L.I.V.E. Hip Hop Festival
Put together by L.I.V.E. (Live to Inspire Via Education), this Hip Hop Festival is Canada's first education-focused fest of its kind. The event begins this afternoon, and takes place at Ryerson over the course of this week, and will feature local and international artists and educators, with performances, workshops, and panel discussions. Check the FB event link for a detailed schedule of events and venue locations. Food and clothing donations are being accepted as an entrance fee.

MUSIC | Smith Westerns
Chicago's Smith Westerns are in for a gig tonight. These guys have a sound that has been described as carrying a diverse array of rock influences from glam via Bowie and Bolan, to garage and proto-psych vibes via the "Nuggets" and "Back To The Grave" compilations. Opening act, Unknown Mortal Orchestra gets things going.

Like a cool best friend that you can always count on, Elvis Monday is here once again, to see us through an otherwise dark, late Feb evening. You are, of course, well aware that this is Toronto's longest-running showcase for all that is indie rock... But did you know tonight's lineup? La Casa Muerte, Alphabot!, Long Range Hustle, Teen Tits/Wild Wives, Heartbeat Hotel, and Bad God will serve up some hot musical goodies for you!

FILM | Trans Film Screening Series: XXY
Hosted by the Trans Inclusion Group, tonight's screening of Lucia Puenzo's "XXY" will be followed by an open discussion. This drama about a teenager named Alex, who at the young age of 15 must decide which gender to live with, is set in Uruguay. "XXY" is an Argentinian film, in Spanish with English subtitles.
