Radar: TIFF club jams, Poetry of Resistance, Deakin at Snowball, Present in the Art, Fall Sample Sale

IN DA CLUB I TIFF extended last call parties
Truth be told, our event listings are flooded by TIFF-related club jams that take advantage of extended hours for last call. A few to highlight: the most annoyingly described event is at the recently opened Maison (formerly Schmooze), COBRA's got some decent DJs in town, the Century Room is hosting DJ RUCKUS (who they describe as the celebrity DJ to the stars!) and Wrongbar has Dubbel Dutch (a.k.a. Marc Glasser) on the schedule.
Various, Cover charges around $10, 10pm - 4am

POETRY I International Festival of Poetry of Resistance
The title doesn't sound so slick ("of" x 2), but you're likely to hear much better work at the festival itself. As the listing reads, This five-day festival will unite poets from around Toronto and the world for a series of readings, discussions, musical performances and a special children's "festivalito" around the theme of resistance to political oppression. The event will begin on Thursday, 16 September with book presentations by Gandhar Chakravarty, Carlos Angulo, Arnold Itwaru, Keith Ellis and Christian Campbell, followed by presentations in honour of political prisoners Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu Jamal and the Cuban Five.

MUSIC I Snowball Gallery presents Deakin, Prince Rama, Tasseomancy, Doldrums
This'll appeal to fans of Animal Collective, as Deakin, a longstanding member, will be showing off some solo material. But, hey, if you're not into that, you can always badger him about the "hiatus." Also on the docket are Brooklyn-based psychedelic rock trio Prince Rama, Tasseomancy and Toronto-based Doldrums.
Snowball Gallery, 1690 Queen St. W, Free, 8:30pm-1:30am

GALLERY I Present in Art
Verbatim: "Present in the Art is the inaugural exhibition of the U@111 art space, a new gallery in the downtown Toronto core, whose director is Artist/Curator Colette French... A fine collection of much that is best in Canadian art, this exhibition gives an excellent sense of where we have come from, and (in part) where we are going." How could you resist taking a peek with that lofty description?
Gallery U@111, 111 Bathurst St, Free, 5pm

CLOTHING SALE I Fall Designer Clothing Sale
This could be so hit or miss, so caveat emptor! But, if you get lucky and see something you like, there are some serious deals to be had here. Clothing = True Religion, Rock and Republik, Nudie G-Star, J Brand, Paige, Seven for all Mankind, Frankie B, Citizens of Humanity, Taverniti, Affliction, Rawyalty, Bulzeye, Diesel, Sinful,
Romeo & Juliet, Laguna Beach Jeans. Oh, and there's bags and purses too!
Sheraton Hotel, 123 Queen St. W, Free (unless you buy something!), 11am-12am
