Radar: Klaxons & Baby Monster, Growing Up Jung Release Party, Dr. Sketchy's, This is Not a Reading Series: Bill Bissett, Mark Bittman in Discussion
MUSIC | Klaxons & Baby Monster
Klaxons put out an album this year that while good, was completely trumped by an awesome and hilarious album cover. The best part of listening to their album on iTunes is every now and then catching a glimpse of astronaut cat. Astronaut cat probably won't be in attendance for the British electro-rock act's show at The Mod Club tonight, which is a good thing -- you can just concentrate on their fun, infections music.
The Mod Club, 722 College St, $20, 9pm
BOOKS & LIT | Growing Up Jung Release Party
It's been out in America for a month now, but Growing Up Jung is getting a Canadian release on Tuesday -- for those few of you that have been anxiously waiting. A book about dream analysis, it's only fitting that the author will be offering free dream analysis on one condition, that you buy him a beer. It's an early party, ending at 8:30 but I'm sure everyone be sticking around long into the night to celebrate.
The Beaver, 1192 Queen St W, Free, 6:30-8:30pm
ART | Dr. Sketchy's
When you think of live sketching classes you probably think of a stuffy art school drawing a bowl of pears, or a nude woman (I think of the latter). What you probably don't think of is a man with a penis hat or an Alice in Wonderland scenario, and that's exactly what this is. Dr. Sketchy's is back from their summer hiatus and ready to give you more wild things to draw. Kicking things off will be performance artist Obskyura.
The Cameron House, 408 Queen St W, $10, 7-10pm
BOOKS & LIT | This is Not a Reading Series: Bill Bissett
If you've been to lots of This is Not a Reading Series and think you know what to expect, that probably won't be the case tonight. Bill Bissett is launching his new book Time, and with the help of poet Adeena Karasick and multi-media artist Blaine Speigel they'll create an audiovisual/word-based piece. Music will be provided by Bowen McConnie and sound-poetry (whatever that is) by Honey Novick. Definitely sounds interesting.
The Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen St W, $5, 7:30pm
FOOD | Mark Bittman in Discussion
Mark Bittman is one of the biggest celebrity chefs that isn't a real chef. He has no formal training but has cooked with some of the best chefs in the world, wrote food columns for the New York Times and appears semi-regularly on the Today Show. He is releasing a new cookbook entitled Food Matters and will be doing a live discussion with CBC Radio host Matt Galloway about all the things he writes about, including the hazards of eating too much meat and global warming.
Artscape Wychwood Barns, 601 Christie St, Free, 7pm
