MUSIC | Basia Bulat In-Store Performance at Soundscapes
If her 2007 debut Oh My Darling earned Basia Bulat some attention as one of Canada's most promising new singer-songwriters, her sophomore release A Heart of My Own has entrenched her at the very centre of the indie pop-folk scene. For all her impressive musicianship Bulat's most extraordinary talent is her voice, a lovely sound which will only be enhanced by the intimate setting of the basement of Soundscapes. Kudos to the College St. record shop, which continues an incredible run of bringing free, marquee acts to its premises.

DANCE | Pteros Tactics
Over the next five days the Toronto Dance Theatre presents a new work by leading Canadian choreographer Christopher House. A collaboration with Dora-winning composer Phil Strong, Pteros Tactics examines the "instant of desire" with a highly physical performance from the talented TDT dancers. If there's any doubt what this things is really about sex, the central character is called Eros the Ballplayer, who likes to play with his Golden Spheres. Kinky. Runs til February 20.

FILM | Willem Dafoe's Face 30 Times / Antichrist
Double Double Land hosts a party with a bit of an unusual purpose tonight. Apparently, someone has come across a genuine life mask (an exact replica of an actor's face used as a stand in during pre-production of a movie) of legendary screen star Willem Dafoe, and they want to show it off. Studios generally throw life masks out once they've been used and lucky scavengers Sarah Kilpack and Courtney Park say they came across theirs for $7.99 at a that treasure trove of knickknacks known as Value Village. If looking at masks of creepy actors for four hours isn't your thing, the gals are also screening Lars Van Trier's 2009 film Antichrist which shocked audiences at Cannes for its disturbing sexual imagery and shows Dafoe at his twisted best.

MUSIC | The Editors w/ the Antlers at the Phoenix
Part of the wave of Joy Division acolytes that washed over the music scene on both sides of the Atlantic at the start of the Aughts, the Editors began with a strong debut but on their two subsequent releases have begun to sound a bit bogged down. Their maudlin music still has its fair share of fans, but a band whose future looks a little brighter is tonight's openers the Antlers, whose earnest and layered debut record about a child with a terminal disease tugged the heartstrings of many and earned much praise from the indie press.

PARTY | Timebomb Tuesdays
It's reading week here in Toronto, so expect a healthy dose of the college crowd at the city's hottest Tuesday night party tonight. Equally attracted by the lack of dress code and $3 drinks until midnight, the slacking student type will likely be out in force. With booze that cheap the music is kind of an afterthought, but in case you're wondering Medley and Y-Pro will be spinning their favourite selections of house, electro, rock and hip-hop hits.
