Health officials ask for provincial funding to eradicate bed bugs

Wiping out the bed bug menace is going to require a chunk of cash from the Ontario government, say Toronto health officials.

They're asking the province for $2.8-million to shore up their resources for the Toronto Bed Bug Project, which have become "strained" thanks to the continued rise of the blood sucking insects. How strained? From the article: "City workers responded to 1,587 requests for bed bug service this year and more than 3,500 apartments have been inspected or assessed for
infestations.

There have been 97 cases of "extreme cleaning" in infested apartments." City officials are expected to provide an update on the progress of bed bug fighting soon.
