York U to get Pan Am track

York University is currently in discussions with organizers to construct a new stadium at its Keele campus for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

I know what we're all thinking -- "but where will they find the room?!"

York is already hosting tennis for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games, and the new stadium would bring track and field events to York during the games.

The stadium, for which York would foot 44 per cent of the bill, will hold 10,000 people with 5,000 permanent and 5,000 temporary seats.

"We are thrilled about this development, as it is a tremendous opportunity for York University, as well as the broader community," said Mamdouh Shoukri, York University president & vice-chancellor. "In pursuing these discussions, the University will be guided by a clear set of principles, including alignment with the University's future needs and the efficient use of its land, and the needs of our community neighbours."

The stadium was moved from Hamilton to Toronto after a dispute in Hamilton over where to put the new stadium.
