Women's College Hospital to get facelift

Women's College Hospital will receive a massive facelift over the next few years, including the construction of a new 630,000 square foot facility.

Provincial funding will help the hospital near Yonge and College see a new ambulatory facility, accessible programming and clinical services and integrated research facilities. The hospital's research facilities are currently offsite, which makes integration between clinical services and research difficult.

The hospital's capacity will increase about 20 per cent, and the number of operating rooms will grow from five to eight. The existing building is expected to stay open as construction begins this fall. The entire project is estimated to be completed by 2016.
