D-Sisive Timbuktu Urbnet

Hot Ticket: Five Dollar Rap Show ft. Timbuktu & D-Sisive, Teenage Kicks & Sandman Viper Command, Sunfields album release, Green Day & AFI, Apocalyptica & Dir En Grey, Guttermouth

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY AUGUST 18 through TUESDAY AUGUST 24, 2010.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 18 / GREEN DAY & AFI / MOLSON AMPHITHEATRE / 955 LAKE SHORE BLVD W / $25 - $90 / ALL AGES
Special guests AFI will open up for fellow American punk rockers Green Day, and while I'm sure both acts will break out a few hits from their early days, the real question of the night is who will be wearing more eyeliner - Billie Joe Armstrong or Davey Havok? You'll have to head to the Amphitheatre to find out...

THURSDAY AUGUST 19 / 5 DOLLAR RAP SHOW / RANCHO RELAXO / 300 COLLEGE ST / $5 / 19+
Timbuktu celebrates the release of his 15-track album Stranger Danger with a $5 rap show at Rancho on Thursday night, where he'll showcase his new LP with help from fellow homegrown hip hop talent like Chokeules, D-Sisive, Modulok, More or Les, Wordburglar and more.

FRIDAY AUGUST 20 / TEENAGE KICKS & SANDMAN VIPER COMMAND / SNEAKY DEE'S / 431 COLLEGE ST / $7 / 19+
Greys (a new project featuring members of Arietta, Burning Love, & more), The Bad Ideas and Sandman Viper Command open up for Teenage Kicks at Sneaky Dee's on Friday night, in celebration of the physical release of their single "Shook Our Bones" on 7". You can download the digital version of the single via juiceboxdotcom.

SATURDAY AUGUST 21 / SUNFIELDS (ALBUM RELEASE) / RANCHO RELAXO / 300 COLLEGE ST / $7 / 19+
Sunfields (a new band fronted by Jason Kent of The Dears) release their debut album this Saturday night with a classic rock party at Rancho Relaxo. The Blooming Rosebuds will get things started at 10pm, followed by Lordy Lordy (featuring Justin and Bryan of Black Hat Brigade) at 11pm, with Sunfields taking the stage at midnight.

MONDAY AUGUST 23 / APOCALYPTICA & DIR EN GREY / SOUND ACADEMY / 11 POLSON ST / $29.50 - $45 / ALL AGES
Finnish metal cellists Apocalyptica and Japanese metal veterans Dir En Grey have teamed up for a North American co-headlining tour that sees the two groups on the road together through early September, with the lone Canadian date announced so far going down this coming Monday night at the Sound Academy. Californian alt-rock sixpiece Evaline will open up.

TUESDAY AUGUST 24 / GUTTERMOUTH / SNEAKY DEE'S / 431 COLLEGE ST / $15 / 19+
Guttermouth are longstanding veterans of the punk rock scene, having released ten albums since their formation in the late eighties. They've managed to spark a few controversies along the way, including an eighteen-month band from playing Canada following singer Mark Adkins' public indecency charge in Saskatoon in '98. Despite the bullshit that comes with being in a touring band for over two decades, the members of Guttermouth are still going strong and they'll headline Sneaks on Tuesday night in support of their latest album Shave The Planet. Montreal ska/reggae collective The Real Deal will open.
