Hot Ticket for the week of May 22nd - May 28th

Halifax's favoured indie son Joel Plaskett brings his band the Emergency to the Phoenix this Thursday. Since disbanding his critically-acclaimed young garage rock band Thrush Hermit in 1999 & going solo, Plaskett's music has matured into lush ballads and bluesy roots-rockers that put his love of his homeland to song. See if you can count the number Canadian geographical references - if you can spell "Musquodoboit Harbour" (hey, no peeking), you have my undying admiration. Thursday May 25th at the Phoenix Theatre (410 Sherbourne), $15. -- Beth

The Toronto funk band with the coolest name ever, God Made Me Funky plays the Rivoli (334 Queen St. W), with special guests Planet Earth, this Friday. After gushing about their CD a few months back, I'll finally get a chance to see them live. Friday May 26th, 9pm. $10 -- Ryan
