Barre Belle
Barre Belle is sweat obsessed. And if that's what you're angling for, you've come to the right place.
Barre Belle is the bouncy, hip, dance-inspired barre workout that uses the beat of the music to inspire every step.It was the brainchild of Jill Belland and Kristi Stuart, who bonded over their love of dance and strength. They launched their first Barre Belle studio in Calgary, and in three years, expanded to Vancouver and Toronto, opening eight studios, and developing a cult following.
Barre Belle’s intent is to create the long, lean, sculpted muscles of a dancer. It combines full compound exercises with barre work, mat and core in a 60-minute blast. The signature BarreX classes are hard and will challenge you, but that's what you want from a workout. Barre Belle Fit and Fat Burn are full-body classes that include interval training using the barre and cardio sequences. Both finish with mat and core work.
Ass & Abs has a reduced amount of cardio but comes with killer abs. Before class, you need to grab your own equipment in another section of the studio. Equipment includes weights, bands, balls and short benches used for jumping and elevated toning exercises. The studio is designed with Instagram in mind. Its two studios have a chic black-and-white decor with hints of millennial pink. Pinterest-y quotes are placed around the studio. The two dedicated fitness rooms are where the signature plies are done with short bursts of cardio. The Barre Belle method difference is in the plie pulses. That little degree of movement—first up, then down—is simple, but effective. With your weight in the heels and toes lifted, the pulse happens in the back of the legs. While you may not notice it in the moment, you will the next day.The best part about the workout is the instructors—they're bubbly, charming and filled with a dancer's energy that is infectious in class.
All the Barre Belle instructors have a background in dance—and it shows in their lightweight movements. But the playlist is also a highlight. Each beat matches the movement, and every song seems to elevate your mood with the perfect wind down toward the end of class.
One part of the studio offers a small retail section, for both Barre Belle merch as well as fitness and wellness products. Barre Belle is ideal for beginners, because it's an endurance workout that doesn't feel vigorous or daunting. It's perfect for people who want to build and maintain strength, while getting in some cardio and fine movement points into their routine.
