Bicyclette to close up shop on West Queen West

Times are tough for independent retailers - even the truly beloved ones. Just a few months after they earned a shoutout in a Vogue magazine piece naming West Queen West the world's second coolest neighbourhood, fashion boutique Bicyclette has announced they'll be closing down their Queen St. storefront in February 2015.

"Bicyclette has always been a labour of love and commerce ... but the conditions in which we're operating are changing," owner Paige Boersma wrote in a blog post this week. She adds that the recent Vogue nod "was an opportunity I never could have dreamed of. The irony was, it was published right around the time I began assessing the future of Bicyclette."

She added via email that while she's not sure what the future holds for Bicyclette, a new brick-and-mortar location is not currently in the cards. In the meantime, it's business as usual throughout the holiday season, with all the sparkle and lace you'd expect from the "fairy tale-meets-street style" shop - be sure to stop in the next few months and say farewell.
