This Week in Fashion: The Parkdale Tiny Flea, Beaches Arts and Crafts Show, Jonathan+Olivia's T-shirt collection, and Beyond the Rack's first sample sale

This Week in Fashion rounds up the week's style news, store openings and closings, pop-up shops, sales and upcoming fashion and design events in Toronto. Find it here every Wednesday morning.

NEWS

Starting in June, The Parkdale Tiny Flea will be held on Saturdays from 10am until 5pm at the corner of Elm Grove and Queen Street West. With stalls selling anything from records to vintage hats, this mini flea market is a fun place to peruse merchandise on a relaxing Saturday. And if you don't need any more stuff, they are currently looking for vendors! Contact them at parkdale.tiny.flea@gmail.com.

Today, Victorinox, the company behind the Swiss Army knife, opens its first North American flagship store at 95A Bloor Street. Along with its famous knives and pocket tools, the store will sell watches, clothing, luggage, towels, and other practical outdoorsy doodads.

EVENTS/PARTIES

The 28th annual Beaches Arts & Crafts Show will be held at Kew Gardens Park on June 9th and 10th, from 10 am until 6pm. If you're interested in quality handmade products including art, photography, jewellery, leatherwork, clothing, ceramics, and more, this free-entrance show features 150 Canadian artists and designers who have perfected these crafts. It's like Etsy without the postal service wait!

Marilyn Brooks - the acclaimed Canadian fashion-designer-turned-painter - will be giving a seminar at the McMichael Gallery on June 9th at 1:30 pm. Hear about her life story and love affair with art and fashion, as well as get advice on how to make your dreams a reality. Register at artscouncil@yorkscene.com. $10 Entry fee.

As the World Wide Knit in Public Day approaches, Wise Daughters is planning to host their knitting party on June 9th from 9:30am until 11:30am, complete with a free breakfast and live jazz piano. The day's knitting events continue at Nathan Phillips' Square until 4pm, thanks to the Downtown Knit Collective.

On June 12th from 6pm until 9pm, Jonathan + Olivia at 49 Ossington Avenue will be hosting a launch party for their first t-shirt collection "FAMILY." The project came together with the help of 8 collaborators - including Toronto's own Brendan Canning from Broken Social Scene, Bad Day magazine, and artist Derrick Hodgson. The t-shirts will be sold in limited quantity, and all profits will benefit SickKids Foundation.

SALES

Beyond the Rack is hosting its first ever sample sale in the Capitol Event Theatre at 2492 Yonge Street. The three-day event will run from noon until 9pm, from June 12 to June 14. Brands including - but not limited to - Prada, Marc Jacobs, and Yves Saint Laurent will be marked up to 85% off, so be prepared to snatch a pair of glorious, designer (and insanely reduced!) heels before somebody else does.

Though the recent weather has had us wondering whether or not summer is going to come (or come back) at all, The Room at The Bay already has select spring/summer 2012 merchandise marked at up to 40% off.
