The News pouches

Toronto Gift Guide: The News cosmetic pouches

It's day number 18 of my quest to find some of the best gifts in Toronto. Today's Pick: The News cosmetic pouches. Creating items from recycled newspaper and magazines isn't a new idea. As kids, we used old paper to make beads and baskets. I'm not always a fan of the effect. It's been done well, but more often than not, the results are too "obvious" - making green fashion choices doesn't mean looking like the bottom of a blue bin.

These recycled newspaper pouches are eco-friendly while still being really chic. LA-based The News is a line of handmade bags and accessories by designer Dahli Coles. The pouches have a spill-friendly finish, thanks to a water-resistant laminate. Perfect for eyeshadow explosions.

Best for: Messy roommates and shared bathrooms

What they'll cost you: $26.99-$34.99

Where to get 'em: Jacob & Sebastian, 622 Queen Street West
