TSA Architects Talk: Listening to Spaces
Architecture impacts all our senses, yet we often rely solely on vision to describe it—but have you ever stopped to listen to a space?
How an environment sounds can have as much of an impact on its character and function as the way it appears. Equally so, how a room sounds can affect our perception and wellbeing. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, sound helps define the space around us and the experiences we share, from the busy chatter of the subway platform to the refined notes of musical performances. Though invisible, sound is no less of an architectural material than wood, concrete or light—one that can be shaped and designed. And this invisible quality makes it a challenging one too, requiring special attention and unique strategies to get it just right.
Join the Toronto Society of Architects and Doors Open Toronto for our 2023 Architects Talk as our sound-shaping speakers—including architects, acousticians and researchers—share their thoughts on space and sound through fast-paced lightning presentations. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A where we will further explore the relationship between the built environment and sound.
