TOTSAPALOOZA TURNS TEN

Small Print Toronto’s annual TOTSAPALOOZA Festival of picture books, indie rock bands and DIY crafts for kids aged 2-8 turns ten this year. Local luminaries are lining up to celebrate this milestone in style.

Canadian Kid-Lit icons Dennis Lee and Barbara Reid, performers Fay Slift and Fluffy Soufflé’s acclaimed Drag Queen Storytime, award-winning author Nadia L. Hohn and popular indie rockers Communism and The Woodshed Orchestra are coming to the 10th Annual TOTSAPALOOZA on Saturday, February 7, from 1-4pm at Revival Nightclub (783 College St).

● The worldwide launch of Dennis Lee’s brand new collection of poems for children, Good Night Good Night. With the musical backing of Communism, Dennis will conduct the crowd in a sing-a-long, blues rendition of his timeless classic Alligator Pie (HarperCollins Canada).

● Barbara Reid will share her latest book Picture The Sky and present her beloved Sing a Song of Mother Goose (Scholastic Canada) with lmusical support from indie-rockers.

● Nadia L. Hohn will unveil Malaika’s Winter Carnival, the follow-up to her award-winning debut picture book Mailaika’s Costume (Groundwood Books).

● Drag Performers JP (Fay Slift) and Kaleb (Fluffy Soufflé) will read a few of their favourite books from past editions of TOTSAPALOOZA and lead an activity, as part of Drag Queen Storytime.

● Renowned multi-instrumentalist/producer Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith, Neko Case, Hydra) leads the energetic rock trio Communism, with his comrade veteran musicians Kurt Swinghammer and Kevin Lacroix.

● Legendary drummer Dave Clark (Rheostatics, Dinner Is Ruined, Gord Downie) pilots The Woodshed Orchestra’s five-piece horn section, four-piece rhythm section and full-ensemble vocals, in a soulful mash up of classic dance styles from around the world.

PERENNIAL AUDIENCE FAVOURITES RETURN

●Choreographer Ann-Marie Williams of the children’s dance studio Movement Lab will get the crowd on the toes.

● Kensington Market mainstay Wanda’s Pie-in-the-Sky will fuel partygoers of all ages with healthy, handmade snacks from their pop-up bakery

A limited number of Early Bird Tickets are now available at the same price as tickets to the first TOTSAPALOOZA in 1998 ($12 Adults / $8 Kids). In January, tickets will be sold at their current price ($18 Adults / $12 Kids).
