The Science Behind Wine Aromas

How can a wine that smells like apples be made from grapes? Why do some wines have floral aromas and others the scent of cured meat? Using essential oils in lieu of wine, sommelier Chris Lafleur discusses the compounds behind the unique aromas of wine.

Chris is a certified sommelier based in Toronto for the last ten years and has worked in private clubs, in the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, as well as for Michelin Star Restaurant Don Alfonso 1890. He is also part of the tasting panel for Cameron Hughes Wines of Vintage Wine Estates. Wherever he is, Chris is driven by a passion for wine, and a love for passing that enthusiasm on to wine lovers everywhere.
