The New Filipino Kitchen in Toronto

What does it mean to connect with our culture through food?

It’s a question answered by 30 contributing authors to “The New Filipino Kitchen” cookbook, including White House executive chef Cris Comerford, young chefs and home cooks from across the US and UK, and Toronto-based food writer Nastasha Alli.

Called “an engrossing, page-turner of a cookbook” by Brian McGinn (Executive Producer, Chef’s Table) and “a wonderful multilayered answer to the question ‘What is Filipino food?’” by award-winning cookbook author Naomi Duguid, “The New Filipino Kitchen” isn’t just a book of recipes - instead, it’s a snapshot of how our food culture has developed and continues to grow as Filipinos settle in different parts of the world.

To kick off Filipino Heritage Month join us for a reading from the book, followed by a panel chat on...

- the relationship of Filipino-Canadians today with our food

- growing up/coming into our own in the Filipino diaspora

- how food has adapted and become part of the Filipino migration story

- how we adapt our everyday cooking and eating habits to life in Canada

- what you can do to share Filipino culture through food
