The Crazy Space Adventures of Princess Sparkly Butt & The Hot Dog Kid, FringeKids!, Toronto Fringe Festival
Blasting into FringeKids is an epic musical quest about a tradition-defying princess who discovers that she can control time with her butt. She must use her butt powers for good, not evil, if she wants to save her planet from totally exploding. Enter Prince Doofmuncher – who identifies – not as a boy – but as a hot dog. This space-exploring, planet-saving, expectation-shattering duo will bring laughs and thrills, while weaving in a few socially progressive lessons for good measure.
Writer/producer/director, Brandon Lane (a Teletoon Production Executive) has coupled up with star/songwriter/ producer, Kimberly Persona, creator of Miss Persona, to develop the fantastical production.
“We wanted to tell a story that appeals to both girls and boys and featured a strong female protagonist - - to prove that female characters with depth can inspire and entertain both genders,” says Lane.
The light-hearted romp touches on some pretty serious themes. The young prince’s quest to become a hot dog echoes the journey of gender-queer individuals. While the beautiful young princess, faced with domestic bliss and the promise of happily-ever-after, instead chooses the empowering adventure of an independent life.
