Shoe Box Sunday

For women living in shelters in Toronto, the holidays can be a particularly difficult time. On Sunday, December 8th between 2-4 p.m., The People’s Pint will be filling up thoughtfully created and decorated shoeboxes to be delivered to women spending their holidays in Toronto’s shelters - filled with items that can enhance self-esteem and reduce feelings of isolation for women in need.

Wrapping paper, tape, tissue paper, cards to write a message to the recipient, and a few supplementary items to include in your box will be on hand.

Oh My Lard BBQ will also be there serving food all afternoon long if want to plan to eat as while your are spending your time with us.

Please bring:

1. A standard-size shoebox with a removable lid or a decorated shoe-size box from the dollar store. (If you have extra boxes you can part with please bring those too for others to use!)

2. Items to fill shoeboxes: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, TTC tokens - makeup, a small piece of jewellery, a nice scarf, hat, mitts, or gift certificates to Subway, Tim Horton’s or Shoppers Drug Mart. Important guidelines for contents can be found here (PLEASE READ): http://www.shoeboxproject.com/how-to-make-a-shoebox.html

We will be making as many shoeboxes as we can from the items on hand. Feel free to either make entirely your “own” box with items you have brought, or to assemble one mixing and matching your items with others that have been donated. You can make more than one! ... And enjoy one of People’s Pint award-winning craft beers while you pack a box to brighten a woman’s holiday.
