Parkdale Arts and Cultural Centre - DOORS OPEN TORONTO

1313 Queen St. West the Parkdale Arts and Cultural Centre , built as a former police station Division 6 1931-63 is part of DOORS OPEN TORONTO this year May 27 &28 . Gallery 1313 opens its doors to visitors to share the history of this art deco building constructed as a police station. The gallery which once housed 12 holding cells is now home to Gallery 1313 an important facility in the arts community and an arts hub for Parkdale and Toronto.

The City owned property is managed by Artscape and the former horse stables in the building house 4 live work studios . There are 5 other live work studios in the building as well as the local Parkdale Village BIA housed in the former Guard Room . The Kababayan Community Centre on the Cowan side of the building housed the police garages including the one for the high speed vehicle. For over a dozen years the building was home to many as emergency housing with the City of Toronto.

For the last 26 years Gallery 1313 has called the building home . It has welcomed thousands of visitors each year including local, national and international exhibitions. Current exhibitions include A City Un Ville which includes the work of over 20 artists who reflect their urban environment through their work .We look forward to welcoming many new visitors to the building with Doors Open Toronto .
