Movember Presents: Let's Talk Masculinity

On Friday, October 18th Movember will be hosting its first ever panel discussion about masculinity at the Globe and Mail Centre in Downtown Toronto!

Please join us and our wonderful group of speakers who will dive into a few of the many themes involving the diverse topic of masculinity. Each of our speakers is passionate about this topic and brings a different perspective to share.

The event will commence at 11:30am. See below for a high level schedule.

Meet our speakers:

Moderator - Samir Mourani is a dynamic speaker, podcaster, digital creator, and writer, renowned for his contributions to mental health and self- development. He has delivered impactful talks at prestigious platforms like TED, CAMH, Deloitte, Water Ambassadors Canada, and York University. Samir hosts and produces "Gent’s Talk," a top 5% globally ranked podcast by Spotify, also featured on Air Canada’s fleet, reaching an average of 52 million passengers. As the Editor of "Gent’s Post," a premier men's lifestyle publication, he focuses on wellness, mental health, grooming, and confidence. He has been featured on Cityline, Breakfast Television, and CBC, discussing modern masculinity, men’s health, and relationships. A dedicated mental health advocate, Samir is committed to transforming the narrative around men’s mental health.

Panelist - Tychon Carter-Newman's debut as a public figure stemmed from being crowned as the first black winner of Big Brother Canada (Season 9) and competed on The Amazing Race Canada. Now utilizing his background in Urban Planning and experiences dealing with adversity, navigating intergenerational trauma, and confronting the realities of anti-Black racism, Carter-Newman has built a platform that fosters inclusivity to motivate and equip learners to rise above systemic limitations and to face the complexities of mental wellness.

Panelist - Dr. Ellen Choi is s an Assistant Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). She received her PhD. at the Ivey School of Business and her Masters degree at the London School of Economics. She is also an executive coach, mediation instructor, and yoga teacher. Her research examines employee mental health and well-being. More specifically, she studies how mindfulness, self-compassion, and authenticity are related to how people feel and behave at work. She teaches organizational behaviour, which covers topics such as decision making, team effectiveness, and leadership.
