Metis Oral Histories: A Storm Fool Visits the ROM

Thursday, March 22, 2018, 11:00 am - 1:15 pm

FREE with Museum admission.

This engaging and captivating session takes you into the world of Métis oral history and traditional storytelling. Ron Evans grew up hearing the histories of his Métis ancestors and stories from Chippewa Cree oral tradition.

Affectionately known as "storm fools," these itinerant storytellers he knew as a boy would take their stories out in the worst blizzards to their shut-in listeners. With a similar passion and understanding, Ron will share these stories as a sacred inheritance from the storytellers who entrusted them to him.

Speaker: Ron Evans

Ron Evans is a Métis storyteller and oral historian. He is the “elder” of the Toronto Storytelling Festival, where he’s been telling stories since the first year in 1979. He has performed at festivals throughout Canada and Europe.
