Alice Rose presents Joke Shop, a new live workshop of stand-up comedy

Monday, September 16th, 2019. 9;00pm

Comedy Bar - 945 Bloor St. West, TORONTO, ON

Tickets: https://comedybar.ca/show.php?Event_ID=12423

Joke Shop is a place for comics workshop and develop their material. Comedians perform in front of a panel of critics, who provide feedback, suggest new tags, etc. A one-of-a-kind learning experience, Joke Shop invites the creative process onto the stage so we can all learn together. This show is a must-see for comedians and fans of stand-up comedy alike!

Conceptualized by Toronto Producer Alice Rose, the aim of Joke Shop is to create a safe and inclusive creative space for performers to workshop their material, and to engage the audience in a more meaningful, interactive way. The panel consists of veteran comics chosen for their expertise and their engagement with the community at large.

About The Panel:

Alice Rose: The creator of Joke Shop, Alice Rose is a Toronto comic who started her career in the Kitchener-Waterloo comedy scene. A storyteller at heart, Alice combines introspective personal narratives with larger observations to create an intimate comedy experience. Alice performs regularly as a member of the comedy collective Queer and Present Danger, and can be found on stages across Toronto and beyond. She recently competed in Comedian of the North, and has performed on the Las Culturistas podcast as part of JFL42. She has also been seen on CTV Your Morning and Netflix's Designated Survivor. You can catch Alice at one of her monthly shows: Comic Sans (Waterloo and Hamilton), Tinder Tales (Hamilton), and P R I D E: Gender Outlaws (Toronto).

Tamara Shevon: Tamara Shevon is a Toronto-based comic who started her comedic story-telling through wine-coloured glasses in Beijing, China. Since then, she has been blazing through the Toronto scene with her characteristic wit and her lovable ability to flirt with the boundaries of socially acceptable. Tamara produces and hosts the very popular SOS Comedy Show. Tamara has performed stand-up all over China, Canada, and the United States and was second runner-up in the Beijing Improv Comedy Festival. More recently, Tamara has performed at NXNE and JFL42. In 2018, Tamara toured across Ontario with Shawna Edward for the Irritable & Confused Comedy Tour where she was the only black person at each stop. If this wasn’t obvious enough already, Tamara wrote this bio herself which is why she sounds so awesome.

Dan Curtis Thompson: Dan Curtis Thompson is a Toronto stand up comedian, writer and actor. He's been seen performing in comedy festivals such as JFL42 and KapowFest, Brantford Comedy Festival and has been seen on YTV.

Dan produces "Comedy TOnight" at Comedy Bar as his own love letter to Toronto stand up comedians and be found on the last Tuesday of every month.

Dan is a finalist in Absolute Comedy's "Prove You're A Comic" Competition, an upcoming finalist at the Brantford Comedy Festival and is a published writer with CBC Comedy.

Rachel Manson: Rachel is a Toronto based writer and comic. She placed third in the New York Devil Cup competition in July where she also opened for Judah Friedlander. She just returned from performing at the Milwaukee comedy Festival and the Dallas Comedy Festival. Last year she was featured in the San Diego Comedy Festival and the Seattle Highlarious Comedy Festival. Rachel is also a freelance writer for production companies in Toronto and L.A, and completed the Web Series Incubator with Women On Screen out of Vice Toronto. You can catch her in commercials for BMO, Visionworks and in the YoutubeRed Series WAYNE.

Created and produced by Alice Rose.
