Hilton Als on Diane Arbus

Join writer Hilton Als for a talk on the life and work of legendary photographer Diane Arbus. In numerous reviews and essays, Als has explored Arbus’s work and motivations, applauding her uncanny ability to embrace and capture difference.

Presented as part of Diane Arbus: Photographs, 1956–1971.

Hilton Als is a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine and the author of The Women and the acclaimed essay collection White Girls. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 2017. Als is an associate professor of writing at Columbia University’s School of the Arts and has taught at Yale University, Wesleyan University and Smith College. He lives in New York City.
