We chose the Sound of Music for its enduring classic songs and heartwarming storyline, popularized by Julie Andrews and a Hillcrest Village neighbourhood born; Christopher Plummer! This musical embodies our values as an organization; a sense of community, togetherness, and the importance of arts and singing to help us prevail over challenging times. With the rise of alt-right politics today, the difficult themes addressed in the musical are again relevant; and it becomes a historical narrative with messages that are important to reinforce. It is this rare combination of a powerful storyline, impactful and relevant messaging that is based in history, with upbeat dance tunes and appropriate for all ages.
