This year the Hillcrest Village Community Players will bring our community together for a production of the renowned and family favourite musical, The Sound of Music. We chose the Sound of Music for its enduring classic songs and heartwarming storyline, popularized by Julie Andrews and a Hillcrest Village neighbourhood born; Christopher Plummer! This musical embodies our values as an organization; a sense of community, togetherness, and the importance of arts and singing to help us prevail over challenging times. With the rise of alt-right politics today, the difficult themes addressed in the musical are again relevant; and it becomes a historical narrative with messages that are important to reinforce. It is this rare combination of a powerful storyline, impactful and relevant messaging that is based in history, with upbeat dance tunes and appropriate for all ages, that makes us excited to perform it as our season two musical.
