Foonyap / Holy Hum

Asian folk electronica reflecting on a tumultuous journey to self-discovery meets a new ambient, neo-classical project with rotating members and no musical boundaries with Foonyap and Holy Hum.

FOONYAP

Calgary-based Foonyap is a classically-trained violinist with an incomparable sound. Her latest release “Palimpsest” is a haunting and challenging experimental-folk album, which CBC called "a stunning, colossal work that's a disconcerting as it is captivating." Dark soundscapes and powerful electronica reflect a cross-generational exploration emerging from a world permeated by rigid structures and exceptionally high standards.

HOLY HUM

The new project of New York and Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist Andrew Lee. Over the past 15 years, Andrew Lee has toured extensively across North America and Europe with In Medias Res (File Under: Music) and Siskiyou (Constellation Records). He has shared the stage with Kurt Vile, Julianna Barwick, Damien Jurado, Frog Eyes, Porcelain Raft and many more and has performed at notable festivals such as All Tomorrow’s Parties, Primavera Sound, and Sled Island. He has also presented special artistic works at the Vancouver Art Gallery, The Centre for Performance Research in New York City and Kunstradio in Vienna.

Part of Small World Music's 16th Annual Asian Music Series sponsored by TD Bank and presented in association with Wavelength and Canadian Music Week.
