Designing the Movies: Slaves of New York

Before there was Carrie Bradshaw, there was Bernadette Peters and SLAVES OF NEW YORK (1989). This lesser-known gem in the Merchant/Ivory porfolio is set in the contemporary art world and captures the disappearing East Village art scene, with Steve Buscemi and Stanley Tucci in early roles, costume designer Carol Ramsey’s madcap take on Manhattan creatives, and a fashion show by pop-punk designer Stephen Sprouse. Shown on 35mm as part of the Revue's Summer of ’89 series. Crazy hats, big hair, insanely 80s outfits!
