Join us in the centre of the AGO to celebrate the launch of four new landmark collections of poetry: What Hurts Going Down by Nancy Lee, The Dyzgraphxst by Canisia Lubrin, Noor Naga’s Washes, Prays and Burning Province by Michael Prior. All four poets will read from their new work.

Nancy Lee, acclaimed author of the novel The Age and the short story collection Dead Girls, returns with What Hurts Going Down, a collection of poems that explore how socially-ingrained violence and sexual power dynamics distort girlhood, womanhood and friendship.

Raymond Souster Award finalist Canisia Lubrin’s The Dyzgraphxst, her second book, mines meanings of kinship through the wide and intimate reach of language across geographies and generations.

RBC Bronwen Wallace Award winner Noor Naga’s bracing debut novel-in-verse, Washes, Prays, is about a young woman’s romantic relationship with a married man and her ensuing crisis of faith.

Award-winning writer and teacher Michael Prior’s acerbic and intimate second collection, Burning Province, explores the enduring impact of the Japanese internment upon his family legacy and his mixed-race identity.
