A Sondheim Jazz Project
Stephen Sondheim was considered American theatre’s greatest songwriter. Now, Jewish Music Week presents a fantastic evening to celebrate Sondheim’s music as no one can. A Sondheim Jazz Project is exactly what it sounds like: thrilling jazz arrangements of the brilliant musical legacy that Sondheim left us.
Plan on dinner with a group of friends, and then sit back and be caressed by the vocals of Alex Samaras, recognized as one of North America’s leading singers in the jazz and new music idioms.
Whatever your musical background, you will be under the spell of the unique sound of A Sondheim Jazz Project.
A Sondheim Jazz Project has performed memorable concerts in collaboration with the Stratford Music Festival, the TD Toronto Jazz Festival (2013 opening night Director’s Pick, along with Smokey Robinson), the Four Seasons Centre for the Arts, The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Soulpepper Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, JazzFM’s Cabaret series, and others. Their album City of Strangers received honourable mention for best jazz album of 2014 from Francis Davis of National Public Radio.
