Ontario's richest people continue to get wealthier, with a new list showing that the province's top billionaires have a combined net worth of USD $62.2 billion (over CAD $85 billion).

According to Forbes' newly released World's Billionaires List for 2026, more than 3,400 entrepreneurs, investors, and heirs were featured, with a combined worth of over USD $20.1 trillion, up $4 trillion from last year.

While the U.S., China, and India had the most representation on the list, dozens of Canadian entrepreneurs were also listed, including several billionaires right here in Ontario. Forbes used stock prices and exchange rates from March 1, 2026, to compile the list.

Overall, Chinese businessman and former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, who founded the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, was listed as the richest Canadian billionaire, with a staggering net worth of USD $110 billion.

Stuart Hoegner, who served as general counsel for Tether and its sister company Bitfinex since 2014, is the first billionaire from Ontario to appear on the list, at #104 with a net worth of approximately USD $24.7 billion. Hoegner owns an estimated 13 per cent of Tether, which is the largest issuer of crypto stablecoins.

The billionaire also previously served as a director of compliance and deputy general counsel at online poker company, Excapsa Software, which was involved in a "software-facilitated cheating scandal," according to Forbes.

Next to appear on the list is billionaire heir Sherry Brydson, who boasts a net worth of USD $11.5 billion, and derives her wealth from her stake as the largest individual shareholder in her family's investment firm Woodbridge. The Thomson family, through Woodbridge, collectively holds hundreds of millions of shares of Thomson Reuters.

Appearing at #302, Tobias Lütke is the third billionaire living in Ontario to appear on Forbes' list. Lütke, who was born in Germany but relocated to Toronto from Ottawa in 2023, has a net worth of USD $10.7 billion. The entrepreneur is the co-founder and CEO of Shopify, which generated nearly $9 billion in revenue in 2024.

With a net worth of USD $7.7 billion, Peter Gilgan is one of the richest billionaires in Ontario on the list. Since founding Mattamy Homes in 1978 in Toronto, Gilgan has built more than 135,000 homes through his company.

Toronto-born Daniel Nadler also appears on the list at #468, thanks to having a net worth of USD $7.6 billion. Nadler co-founded AI company OpenEvidence in 2022, which reached a valuation of $12 billion after a funding round earlier this year. Nadler also co-founded the software company Kensho, which was sold to S&P for $550 million in 2018.
