ttc subway closure weekend

TTC subway will be a total mess this weekend and here's what you need to know

Transit users be warned: a series of closures will affect TTC subway service on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and you might need to plan out your weekend very carefully to avoid these planned disruptions.

The TTC's two busiest subway lines will be impacted by early closures, a shutdown of a five-station stretch of track, and another station skipped entirely for a full day of service.

Here's what you need to know about the transit closures and by-passes in the days ahead.

Friday, September 20, will mark the final night in a five-evening stretch of early closures, with subway service ending at 11 p.m. nightly between York Mills and St. Clair stations on Line 1 for planned track work.

Shuttle buses will operate along the closed stretch, though anyone relying on this portion of the subway for their Friday night plans might want to consider alternate routes.

Nightly closures will be followed by a full-day closure of this stretch on Saturday, September 21, as the TTC continues track work between York Mills and St. Clair stations on Line 1.

While there will be no service all day Saturday on this section of track, all stations will remain open for passengers to purchase/reload Presto fares, and shuttle buses will be in operation.

Regular service along this portion of Line 1 will resume on Sunday, September 22, by 8 a.m.

Unfortunately, these aren't the only TTC subway outages that will complicate weekend commutes.

The transit agency is advising riders that trains will bypass Pape Station on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth for the entire weekend.

Trains will skip the station due to ongoing construction activities for the Ontario Line, as Metrolinx crews will be working in close proximity to the station platform.

Buses will still operate out of Pape Station during the bypass, and the station will remain open for passengers to purchase fares and reload Presto cards.

The TTC states that everything will be back to normal in time for the start of subway service on Monday morning.

In addition, there will be a late opening on Sunday, September 22, with service on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth between St. George and Broadview stations to start by 11 a.m. due to planned track work. Shuttle buses will operate from 8 to 11 a.m. to keep passengers moving.

Bay and Sherbourne stations will be closed during this time, though all other subway stations will remain open.
