Silver Snail Yonge Dundas

A first look inside the new home of the Silver Snail

As we learned last month, the Silver Snail comic book store, a Queen West stalwart, will be moving to a new location at Yonge and Dundas this summer to take on entertainment giant HMV (which also sells comics and graphic novels) and several other book stores. Work is still underway on the new digs, but a recently posted tour of the space by owner George Zotti offers a peek at what's to come.

It's pretty long, but Zotti gives a few interesting details about the new layout. There will be iPads containing digital comics set into the cafe counter overlooking Yonge Street, a new space for art, and even a live drawing station for guest artists to use at signings and other special events. Skottie Young and Dave McKean are two big names dropped in the video who could be making appearances soon after opening.

To ensure some continuity for loyal customers, parts of the signage and famous decorations from the old store will be salvaged and worked into the new decor. Plans are also afoot to have the company logo printed large on the brushed concrete floor of the store, which was formerly the jazz and blues section of HMV.

The new Silver Snail expects to be up and running in early July.
