Toronto Gift Guide: The Mighty Wallet

Posted by Dayna Winter / December 23, 2010

Mighty WalletIt's getting down to the wire but today marks day number 22 of my quest to find some of the best gifts in Toronto. Today's Pick: The Mighty Wallet. For a wallet that lasts, I usually opt for leather. My inner conflict over leather is a touchy one, though - should I be wearing leather if I'm not eating meat? But I'm also sensitive to my landfill contribution, and faux-leather options will undoubtedly end up as garbage in a few months. There is a happy compromise, though. The Mighty Wallet is free of animal ingredients and it's also 100% recyclable. Win-win.

While a paper wallet may draw skepticism, the "paper" is actually a microfiber material that is tear- and water-resistant. It just looks like paper. Due to an origami-esque design, the wallet is also constructed using no stitching, allowing it to stretch to accommodate wads of cash, frequent-flyer cards or baby photos. The Mighty wallet comes in an array of designs, from pop art to vintage Star Trek to NYC subway map prints.

Additional Specs: Made of Tyvek, 25% recycled-content, 8" x 3 1/4" x 1/8"

Best for: Boys (they're back-pocket friendly) and enviro-penny-pinchers

What they'll cost you: $15.00-$17.00

Where to get 'em: Bergo, 55 Mill Street #47A or Outer Layer, 430 Bloor Street West

This actually a really cost effective wallet...it'l ensure no woman will ever want to go out with you a 2nd time and you'll save heaps of cash!

God, bargain bin crap for people with no taste.

@Alex: When I dated my boyfriend, he had a duct tape wallet. Ended up dating him the second ... third ... fourth time. Now we've been together for five years.

But good effort in trying to paint women as ridiculously shallow and men stupid enough to play the game.

I'm a woman & I own one of these wallets. Couldn't be happier with it. If I saw a guy with one I'd think it was awesome. Also, "bargain bin crap for people with no taste?" I take it you just went by the photo...try visiting the company's website and see what they're all about.

It would be nice though if some of these "best gift" options included nice, quality, beautiful items instead of kitschy ironic stuff that looks more like a teenager would use it.

I wish there were a photo of the inside of the wallet.

I have one of these - got it as a demo product from the manufacturer. I use it when I'm traveling or going out and don't want to carry around a purse or my large wallet. It's good for what it is - it's really light and simple and fits well in my jean pocket without feeling like I'm sitting on a brick. It's somewhat durable - I've never really had to wonder if it would rip or anything. I've noticed it's a bit of a conversation starter too.

Mine has two separate areas for bills on the inside as well as two areas for putting cards.

I like it. There are a bunch of different designs... even plain old black!
