NADA was definitely one of my favourite collections this season. Designer Nada Shepherd was able to marry excellent construction with an artist's eye, creating a series of looks that was exciting, but also wearable.

The first look even drew a burst of applause from the crowd, which was the first time I'd seen that happen this season. (Wondering what caused it? Think a woven leather minidress with a sheer black top, worn over striking lace tights.)

Backstage before the NADA runway show at LG Fashion Week was a flurry of activity, from hair crimping, teasing and an extreme touch of eyeliner as the L'Oreal crew transformed these women into runway models. Big hair seemed to be all the rage as NADA geared up for yet another stunning show. Here's my photoset from the action backstage.

There were some designers who tried different things for the fall 2009 collections. NADA was one of them. Instead of the usual feminine looks she went darker and edgier with very successful results. It was a gothic rock n roll fantasy complete with a soundtrack put together by Fritz Helder. When someone brings me back to my 90s obsession with Nine Inch Nails by playing Closer, I'm pretty much in love.

The majority of the collection was black, but there were some great burgundy, mauve and cream pieces that provided a little reprise from the darkness. Skinny pants were the standard wetting my increasing appetite for leather pants and shiny black leggings.

When a collection walks the runway to an electro mix of Manson's "Beautiful People" you know it's going to be kinda dark. NADA was the perfect touch of just enough goth without going overboard in that oh-so lame "highschool outcast" kind of way.
