Sunny Fong shows knits, coats at LGFW 2011

Posted by Briony / April 1, 2011

Sunny Fong may have went astray last season, but his fall/winter 2011 VAWK collection was one of the best I've ever seen on the runways of Fashion Week here. It was that good.

Coats were the main focus of the collection, and DAY-UM, were they ever spectacular. There was leopard-print ponyhair coats trimmed with white leather and worn over nothing at all ("I WANT THAT COAT" was scrawled across the length of my notebook), fur-trimmed leather car coats, a double-breasted maroon coat with military buttons and a fur-trimmed hood, teal shortie jackets, wool coats adorned with a bold chevron of fur
marching up and down the circumfrence....The creativity with fur and trim was astounding.

Even more impressive (seriously - you could hear the whispers frissoning through the crowd like mad) were the thick knits that started out as a strong cableknit shoulder or front of a dress and then melted seamlessly into the garment, blurring the line between knit and not. Amazing. (Honorable knit mention goes to the cute loose short-sleeved turtleneck.)

Leather (still trendy) and fur (even trendier) showed up in leather dress-shirts (with attached tie) and a gorgeous leather-trimmed fur vest dripping in feathers, along with a va-va-voom dress with attached cross-shoulder belt combo that clipped into the knit collar. Fall favourite sheers showed up, too, in swingy teal silk pants and a see-through black button-up with black leather panels to cover up the naughty bits.

It's been a while since I've loved a collection so. It happens maybe once a season, if I'm lucky--whether it's LINE last fall, IZMA the spring before, or even my beloved Andy The-Anh spring 2009 show--so bravo, Sunny.

Now I just have to get my hands on it.
