Baby Steinberg shows eco-chic at LG Fashion Week

Posted by James Kachan / October 23, 2010

Baby SteinbergI'm not the world's biggest treehugger, but I do my part - recycling, using garbage bins instead of littering and the occasional outcry when I hear that someone's clubbed a seal, but Baby Steinberg took eco-chic to a whole new level.

Garbage bag fringe, key bikinis and a dress that looked like it was made from carpet made their way down the runway Thursday afternoon at LG Fashion Week. I was very impressed with Baby Steinberg's reduce/reuse/recycle theme. The natural progression from dark, sombre colors and heavy textures to lighter textiles and softer colors made me fall in love with Baby Steinberg's craft - cocktail dresses, bold tops and bikinis and the most elaborate gowns (all crafted from the finest "trash") came down that runway.

I will say, though, that Baby Steinberg not only reinforced the guilt that I need to do more for the environment, but also that something as irrelevant as garbage can be beautiful. Now I finally have a use for all those cardboard boxes...

The Baby Steinberg Show was stellar @ LG Fashion Week!

One of our models, Kimberly Edwards, was in the show wearing the beautifully designed black window screen, halter cocktail dress!

All of the models rocked that runway...Great job all around!

ur models may have been stellar, but this kind of ecofashion looks so contrived it deserves only contempt. hopefully its compostable, and the sooner the better. i wouldn't let my pet cabbage be seen in this.

oh indeed i do, though were it "hot" fitting it would be borscht. i love borscht, as much as i love good fashion. don't diss my cabbage, creative minds. she's so sweet with beets and cream. and lots of moskovskaya vodka. yeah lots.

Its because I cry when baby seals get punched that I want to sing praises to Baby Steinberg (BS) for bring sustainable fashion to the runway.
However, I still think we are (still) more than an arm's reach away from presenting Eco fashion as ... well, not looking like recycled carpet-cum-cocktail mess. I mean, people are only going to be as green as their options, so why not make Eco-fashion, fashionable? no? Yes!
