Zoran Dobric gets women, not so much men
The menswear arrived on the runway on Tuesday. Great. Not really. Zoran Dobric cites the romantic literary period as a source of his inspiration, highlighting perversion as one of his juxtaposed themes. It was perverse, alright.
Shrunken vests came down the runway one after another - apart from being ill-fitting, they were dated and had no commercial appeal. Graphic silk-screened t-shirts had an aztec motif, complete with faceted leather zip detailing - think Ed Hardy, with a twist. Is this really what Toronto men are looking for? A Brant House staple to be sure.
I took a liking to his drop-crotch trouser - a trend piece that is often unflattering, Dobric fit them beautifully, showing that it does not have to look like you couldn't get to the bathroom.
Sadly, only one item of the bunch made an impact - menswear is certainly not gaining momentum just yet.
The real highlight was his womenswear, complete with boiled wool, jersey, canvas and textile prints by artist Aleksandar Skoric.
House-made aztec-inspired jewellery styled the looks - a rich teal silk dress is angelic, with the added interest of an original print. Perfect for effortless glamour that takes no time at all. A basic black body con dress surprises with a sheer back panel - sometimes the simplest details can take you from marm to sex kitten.
Ribbon combined with brass buckles to form a makeshift harness that topped a basic cotton jersey mini - simple to make, I bet, but it seemed to neither constrict, nor accentuate the dress. Why was it there? Your guess is as good as mine.
I give major kudos to Dobric for taking on the task of mens and womenswear - he can definitely make a girl feel good, but what about the fellas?
The hunt for stand-out menswear at LG Fashion Week continues.
Stay tuned.

So... the future of men's fashion is... looking like a hairdresser?
Um....the future of men's fashion is not this. Take it back to the design table Zoran!! As a gay man I love fashion but this is crap! The pants are too large and are pleated!!! The shirts have too much pattern and junk on them not to mention the embelleshments!! Simplify and make something real people would actuall wear. I don't know a gay or straight man how would even consider wearing any of these "clothes".
The future of mens fashion passed a couple years ago with: Hedi Slimane
Really? I think the major crime here is the womenswear. Who's bright idea was it to not only broaden but to lower the hips? And the grandma hemlines! I guess we've got our next TSC desginer, folks.
