Brandon Dwyer at Toronto Fashion Week
Brandon Dwyer's girls are two-faced for Fall 2010. In the opening clip, Andi Muise stars as a tough-girl brunette, with a blonde alter-ego. The models in disguise stalked down the runway in campy blonde wigs and glitter-covered lips.
By day, the BASCH by Brandon Dwyer girl sports ladylike sheaths in heavy tweed. The palette is dominated by grey, purple and black. Though prim and figure-flattering, one keyhole version feels out of place.
Bondage, one of Dwyer's signatures, is back for fall. Wraparound details are used at the waistline or only around skirts. The details accentuate curves without being reserved for party girls alone. A sleeveless, turtle-necked version in deep purple is a highlight. Though a seafoam green version doesn't look timely.
By night, the silhouette loosens up as Dwyer adds swinging skirts and drapery. A grey satin dress with gathering at the collar and an A-line skirt is a stand out. With its neutral colour and figure-flattering silhouette, it's the perfect transition item for any wardrobe.
Dwyer told /Fashion Week Daily/ that his pop culture inspiration comes from Haus of Gaga. Lady G's inspiration came through in a fitted black dress with sheer panels. But it steered him wrong when a model walked without pants.
The audience catches glimpses of the brunette femme fetale yet again, with black leather and fur details. Things get dramatic with a floor-length black gown and a busy, green version is draped to conceal a steel-coloured corset. Dwyer's at his best with pieces that crave the spotlight. So incognito blonde or ready to battle brunette? I'm siding with the brunette on this one.
