Fashion Week
VAWK by Sunny Fong at the AGO
Boy, do I love attending Sunny Fong's VAWK shows at the AGO. All that natural light, the soaring ceilings, and the winding path taken by the models really makes for a fresh fashion-going experience.
And the clothes were lovely, too. With the intriguing theme of fungi (!) and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Fong put together an even more accomplished collection of femme fatale looks that show both his trademark ladylike grace and the fierceness that's been out in full force this Fashion Week so far.
Like a lot of the designers out there this season, fur was a big part of the collection, trimming the cuffs of sexy belted toppers, appearing on the front of dresses and skirts, and forming the two-tone top of a fitted military-style jacket.
Creamy neutrals were again Fong's palette of choice (although this time sans the fuchsia and red accents of his Polynesian-themed spring collection), whether it was a diaphanous sleeveless top with a chic, angular bow sprouting from the shoulder, a beige leather skirt trimmed in ivory fur, or a matte silver draped jersey top.
The coats were the highlight for me, with Fong playing with proportion in full sleeves, high necks, and cinched waists, plus two-toned fur and wrinkled leather.
But the true loves? That's the eighties-tastic leather mini-dress with the gray fur fluffing out of the bottom.
Oh, yes.
Yes, yes, yes. Sunny, another success!
