Rain Anthology Is Great if You Like Wearing Yellow with Neon Green
It seems every season Toronto Fashion Week features a designer inspired by the Caribbean (last season it was Carlton Brown). Yesterday, it was Rain Anthology led by designer Blaine Degannes who actually has no background in fashion. He's a former US Marine who developed an interest in fashion and trained under Flow by Tara Davis designer Tara Davis to learn the basics.
I personally didn't like the show: from the music (didn't suit the clothing), to the models (what agency were they from?), to the styling (ugh), to the clothing itself (see below). There was a paisley inspired motif featured on various pieces of clothing in a variety of neon colours such as pink, blue, yellow, green. The colour palette reminded me of hip-hop videos from the early 90s: blue with orange, yellow with neon green and it was hard on the eyes.
Blaine had a lot of outfits and styles including a few bolero jackets, high waisted shorts and pants, off the shoulder dresses and one particular dress that was a poor copy of one of Karen Walker's beauties from season's ago. There was also a lot of boobs thanks to those sheer spaghetti strap tops. I was disappointed throughout the entire show, but I did enjoy Blaine's finale when he walked out with a t-shirt that said "google me baby." At least he knows how to get noticed.
