Jessica Biffi and Her Fembots Do Disco, Dynasty and Gold Hoodies at Toronto Fashion Week
Jessica Biffi knows how to put on a show. Under the tents at Toronto Fashion Week yesterday, techno music pulsed, neon lights flickered and models moved like broken dolls. As the opening video played, I knew this wasn't just going to be about models walking in a straight line.
In her first collection since competing in Project Runway Canada (ah, the LGFW takeover continues) Jessica Biffi certainly set herself apart. The show's opening dress included architectural paneling that became one of the line's signatures. Swirled in neon colour, it was fit for a graffiti artist's dream.
Paneling popped up again in the more wearable solid colour dresses and skirts, proving that structured pieces can still be flirty. One favourite was the fuschia version, which could be combined with sequins for a club or all black for dinner.
Call it futuristic. Call it disco. It's clear Biffi's fembots had retro touches. Pink and coral onesies said, "let's get physical." While a surprising closing jumpsuit screamed, "Dynasty."
The final bit of love at this vibrant show was for the models' finale. In short pink onesies with exposed zippers and gold hoods, it looked like the fembots were on a mission.

I loved Jessica Biffi's show— bright, bold pieces, a great energy. She didn't play it safe, and that's what I loved the most about the show. Can't wait for her FW 2010 presentation! Plus, love the Design + Conquer earrings...
