In Photos: Evan Biddell Fall 2009
Evan Biddell handed out earplugs before his fall 2009 presentation. It was going to be loud apparently. I didn't end up using them. I gave them to Andrew of Now Magazine after reading his tweet about not having any. I was sitting right behind him. The music was loud but not as loud as I expected. I think that's just from the damage I did to them at concerts, raves and clubs in my youth.
Black was the dominate colour in the collection. Biddell is a colourful character and also used large doses of purple, green, yellow, grey and teal. It was all about the pants for me in this collection. Evan does such a fantastic job with them. Since I'm a fan of the jumpsuit trend right now, I'm very interested in the purple one. The science nerd in me loved the robot tunics. Evan says he was inspired by robots and clones for Fall 2009.
The black, purple and white print leggings were always paired with motorcycle or bomber style jackets. I enjoyed those looks and the contrast of the loud print and black. I enjoyed the shapes of the jackets sent down the runway. The exposed zipper detailing on the jackets, pants and jumpsuits worked well. I wish the coloured dresses minimized the zipper instead as the larger ones didn't lie flat as they should have.
I wasn't big on the styling. I didn't like the choice of lip colour and it distracted me a bit. Some of the shoes were crazy high and were studded. One poor model lost her shoe but was a consummate professional and finished the exit. I thought the knits were too bulky and I'm sure they were meant to offset the slickness of the collection but weren't effective. I guess I should be glad there weren't fur accents. I've seen enough of them this week .

it looks like it's straight from fashion school
i agree , look like student work ... the only good thing are accessories...
this is amazing work.
evan biddell has re-invented with this collection; the suit, jacket & pants. continually coming up with fresh and new...brilliant use of zippers & colour that works so well with our black clothing world. yet still comes across as soft balanced with his knit wear & scarves. love the bad-ass styling: spiky shoes, black blush & white lipstick...way to tell the story.
